A veritable army of Kindle fans are on hand to tell you that books of every variety are as popular today as ever; it’s just that you might not see as many packed bookshelves in people’s living rooms because an entire library now fits in the palm of your hand.\n\nBut did you know e-readers can do more than just store your library in a compact way? If the only thing you ever do with your Kindle is buy and then read the latest bestseller, you might be surprised to learn some of the interesting things your Kindle can do.\n\n![Kindle Paperwhite.](https://assets.aboutamazon.com/dims4/default/b187db3/2147483647/strip/true/crop/1620x1080+150+0/resize/300x200!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fassets.aboutamazon.com%2F39%2F5d%2Ffecd31c9434a913d40a92c55dd0b%2Fpaperwhite-hero-v1.jpeg)\n\n- [How to use a Kindle Paperwhite](https://www.aboutamazon.in/news/devices/how-to-use-a-kindle-paperwhite)\n\nHere are six of the coolest things you can do with a Kindle that you may not know about.\n\n## 1. Get free books from Amazon\n\nIf you’re a Kindle user and hold an Amazon Prime subscription–you’re in luck. As an [Amazon Prime member](https://www.amazon.in/kindle-dbs/hz/bookshelf/prime), you can access a rotating catalogue of select eBooks at no additional cost.\n\n![Amazon Kindle](https://assets.aboutamazon.com/dims4/default/69abb5b/2147483647/strip/true/crop/2230x1486+0+0/resize/767x511!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fassets.aboutamazon.com%2F05%2F3d%2F93cfb3e645aa83ac763cf37bf39d%2Fdownload-4-1.jpg)\n\n## **2. Take screenshots**\n\nFew people know that you can take screenshots on your Kindle. On current models, you can just tap opposing corners of the screen simultaneously (like the upper right and lower left or the upper left and lower right). The screen should flash, and the screenshot is saved. To retrieve the screenshot, connect your Kindle to a computer using USB, and copy the file.\n\n## 3. Organise your books with Collections\n\nVoracious readers can accumulate a lot of books on their Kindle. If that sounds like you, the good news is that you can organise your titles into Collections. To create a Collection, go to the Home screen, tap 'Create a Collection', and give it a name. Then you can open your library, tap and hold on a book, and choose 'Add to/remove' from Collection to file the book there. Once you have sorted your books into collections, you can view your library by collections to find things much more easily.\n\n![A hand holding up the new Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition against the sky](https://assets.aboutamazon.com/dims4/default/13859e9/2147483647/strip/true/crop/2472x1648+228+0/resize/300x200!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fassets.aboutamazon.com%2F60%2Ff2%2Fa8f6c9eb402a8f458d1dfb9d44b5%2Fkindle-paperwhite-signature-edition-3.png)\n\n- [Which Kindle should I buy? Send documents to your Kindle\n\nYou can send documents to your Kindle device and read them on the go in between moments with your latest novel. Most of the time, the easiest way to do this is to use the [Send to Kindle](https://www.amazon.in/sendtokindle) website—just drag your file to the page and it’ll automatically be sent to your Kindle. You can upload common file formats like PDFs, Microsoft Word, TXT, JPGs, and more, with a max file size of 200 MB. You can also send documents and web articles to your Kindle library via the mobile share sheet on [iOS](https://www.amazon.in/sendtokindle/ios) or [Android](https://www.amazon.in/sendtokindle/android).\n\n![Kindle Paperwhite](https://assets.aboutamazon.com/dims4/default/44fbdb5/2147483647/strip/true/crop/2640x1486+0+0/resize/767x432!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fassets.aboutamazon.com%2Fd1%2F8c%2F86fc047d4ebb98906d48c55c3518%2Fdownload-3-2.jpg)\n\n## 5. Export all your notes and highlighted text\n\nYou probably know that you can highlight text and even leave notes in books as you read them. But what you might not realise is that you can export all those notes to your computer. Open the book with your personalised notes, tap the three-dot menu at the top right, and choose 'Notes & Highlights'. Tap the 'Notes & Highlights' tab and then use the 'Export Notes' button at the bottom of the screen to send everything to you in a convenient email message.\n\n## 6. Enable dark mode\n\nMany apps and devices now offer dark mode, which darkens the background to make the screen easier on the eyes. For many people, it’s a popular choice in the evening hours to help get ready for bed, and your Kindle is equipped with its own dark mode. In fact, some people simply enable the white-text-on-black-background all the time. To try it for yourself, swipe down from the top of the screen to open the 'Quick Actions; panel, tap 'Dark Mode', and you’re done.","publisher":{"@type":"Organization","name":"About Amazon","url":"https://www.aboutamazon.com","sameAs":["https://x.com/amazonnews","https://www.linkedin.com/company/amazon","https://www.instagram.com/amazonnews"],"logo":{"@type":"ImageObject","url":"https://assets.aboutamazon.com/bd/8f/88e7b0314cc2bd05b9de3155a0fe/amazon-news.svg"},"parentOrganization":{"@type":"Organization","name":"Amazon","url":"https://www.amazon.com","sameAs":["https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q3884","https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_(company)","https://x.com/Amazon"]}}}
