The solution includes an app called Johari that uses computer vision models and wi-fi enabled IoT cameras to identify pre-determined defects—cuts, cracks and other damages—in fresh produce.\n\n![Amazon Fresh India](https://assets.aboutamazon.com/dims4/default/3885cd6/2147483647/strip/true/crop/1080x720+100+0/resize/300x200!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fassets.aboutamazon.com%2Ff5%2F9f%2F43fe106c4a5081e7a696ef0a8fa8%2Ffresh-1280x7201.jpg)\n\n- [Here's everything you need to know about Amazon Fresh](https://www.aboutamazon.in/news/workplace/heres-everything-you-need-to-know-about-amazon-fresh)\n\n## How Johari works\n\nJohari works in two monitoring modes—manual and automated. Manual monitoring lets sellers or operators submit a picture of the produce in a crate from their phone. The shelf monitoring solution then analyses the image using grading logic to highlight any item that does not meet quality standards. The app can also be used to understand specific defects for each item and the whole process takes just 6 seconds. In the automated monitoring option, cameras on shelves take pictures at predetermined intervals and analyse quality through the above process. \n\n> The shelf monitoring solution will bolster capabilities to fulfil our commitment of delivering the finest grocery services in India. With seamless automation, the solutions ensure top-notch quality of fresh produce, enhancing customer satisfaction, reaffirming Amazon's dedication to providing unparalleled service and quality to its valued customers.\n> — Rajeev Rastogi\n\n“Leveraging cutting-edge deep neural networks and state of art engineering that leverages cheap Wi-Fi IOT cameras, the shelf monitoring solution sets a new benchmark for monitoring and maintaining highest quality of farm produce and strengthen Amazon’s comprehensive end-to-end quality monitoring system for fresh produce, covering procurement, processing, and storage,” Rastogi added.\n\n## A machine learning model trained by millions of product defect images\n\nTwo types of machine learning models, trained using annotated defects in millions of produce images, have been developed: one detects each visible item in the crate and counts the total number of items while the second one identifies visible defect classes present in each item along with the precise location of the defect and its size (area and length).\n\n> Amazon continues to invest in state-of-art technology to ensure customers with the best online grocery shopping experience. Our focus has always been customer backwards and we are providing our Amazon Fresh customers consistent and superior quality of fresh produce across India.\n> — Harsh Goyal\n\n![Amazon Fresh partners with farmers through Amazon Kisan program](https://assets.aboutamazon.com/dims4/default/4e95800/2147483647/strip/true/crop/1080x720+100+0/resize/300x200!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fassets.aboutamazon.com%2F55%2F50%2Fc063d7774a2188187ce689c739d0%2Ffarm3-1280x720.jpg)\n\n- [How Amazon is using technology to improve farmer livelihoods and boost crop yield](https://www.aboutamazon.in/news/community/how-amazon-is-using-technology-to-improve-farmer-livelihoods-and-boost-crop-yield)\n\n## The journey from farm to fork\n\nGrocery is one of the fastest-growing categories for Amazon in India. Amazon Fresh sources its produce from registered farmers at collection centers, where it is subjected to rigorous quality inspections. The loose produce is then sorted, graded, and packed in different pack sizes at processing centers and dispatched to the fulfillment center nearest to the customer. These fulfillment centers operate with three separate temperature zones: ambient, tropical, and chilled, to maintain the quality and freshness of the produce. Amazon Fresh is available in over 60 cities in India, and offers a full basket selection of quality products, including wet and dry groceries. Customers can choose their preferred delivery slot and Amazon Fresh will deliver their groceries right to their door.","publisher":{"@type":"Organization","name":"About Amazon","url":"https://www.aboutamazon.com","sameAs":["https://x.com/amazonnews","https://www.linkedin.com/company/amazon","https://www.instagram.com/amazonnews"],"logo":{"@type":"ImageObject","url":"https://assets.aboutamazon.com/bd/8f/88e7b0314cc2bd05b9de3155a0fe/amazon-news.svg"},"parentOrganization":{"@type":"Organization","name":"Amazon","url":"https://www.amazon.com","sameAs":["https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q3884","https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_(company)","https://x.com/Amazon"]}}}
