Amazon India's flood relief efforts in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim
Continuous heavy rainfall since June 24, 2026, has triggered widespread flash floods and landslides across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Sikkim. In Arunachal Pradesh, communities across 251 villages have been affected. In Assam, six districts have been impacted, with Dhemaji among the worst-hit. Homes, agricultural land, public infrastructure and transport connectivity have sustained significant damage, and several bridge collapses have cut off access to affected communities. Relief and rescue operations are ongoing across the region.
How Amazon and partners are helping
Amazon’s Disaster Relief team is working closely with Amazon Transportation Services (ATS) and nonprofit partners to support communities impacted by the floods and landslides. To date, the team has provided more than 6,000 relief items through seven nonprofit organisations across Keyi Panyor and Papum Pare districts in Arunachal Pradesh, Dhemaji district in Assam and West Sikkim district in Sikkim.
Critical supplies reached affected communities within the first 48 hours of the disaster and this effort has directly supported 10% of the total population needs across the 3 states impacted. Most relief items were sourced from Amazon's disaster relief hubs or vendor pre-positioning, enabling the rapid response. Working closely with nonprofit partners, Amazon has also tailored relief support to local community needs, including customising food kits to reflect local dietary preferences.
The relief material included food, blankets, hygiene kits and critical search-and-rescue equipment. Amazon is also coordinating with the District Disaster Management Office (DDMO) in Keyi Panyor, one of the worst-hit districts, to support ongoing search-and-rescue operations with medical supplies and equipment, including foldable stretchers, wheelchairs, pulse oximeters, rechargeable searchlights, protective gear, tarps, rain ponchos and first-aid supplies.
Amazon is working with several organisations on the ground, including Seva Kendra Arunachal East, ANMA Integrated Development Association (AIDA), Drishti Foundation Trust, and PRO RURAL.
The Disaster Relief team continues to monitor weather events in India and stands ready to respond as community needs are confirmed.
