Don’t you love how easy it is to use a Kindle, an Echo device, or even their apps across other devices? But have you ever wondered how they work? How does your device know that it is you who is signing in, or using it? What happens when you use it for the first time? Here’s where we introduce you to our behind-the-scenes device warriors, the Device & Rights Management Platform (DRMP) team.

They are a small, dedicated team based in Chennai who ensure that all users of Amazon devices have a delightful experience, every time. From the time you buy a device to the time you turn it on and set it up, the team works relentlessly behind the scenes to ensure you have a smooth experience. The team strives to deliver an effortless experience every time, and are constantly innovating for you.

We ensure that our customers have a seamless and hassle-free experience when it comes to registering multiple purchases across devices.

As Arun Athiappan, Senior Software Development Manager at the DRMP team, says, “The holiday season is when our team handles a million transactions per second. Our continuous innovation at the backend helps us to handle this well. Our main focus is to ensure that our customers have a great experience with their device from the moment they register. I am proud to say that we have been highly successful in achieving this.” Arun also says that he is proud to be part of a team that is ready to take on challenges.

Tackling COVID challenges

Covid-19, for instance, was an unexpected challenge and the DRMP team had to quickly reinvent themselves to provide uninterrupted service to customers. All of this, while working from home and taking care of themselves and their loved ones.
Balaji, a Software Development Manager in the DRMP team, says, “I was concerned about the health and wellbeing of my team. However, Amazon moved quickly and helped us out. Our leaders placed the safety of all employees and their families above all else. Amazon encouraged us to talk to our managers about working from home two weeks before the Government of India’s lockdown announcement. I personally took up this option. Amazon ensured that everyone had all the equipment that they needed to work from home. The process was hassle-free and most of our office laptops and other essential equipment were shipped to our doorstep. We were given a lot of flexibility with employee-friendly policies.” Balaji stressed how the leadership at Amazon helped his team deliver value to customers even in the midst of a pandemic, while working from home.
