Amazon India has announced plans to scale Ashray, its network of air-conditioned resting centers, to 250 by end of 2026. The company will make 50 new centres operational by end of May 2026, adding to its existing network of 100 centers across cities like Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai.
Amazon has also rolled out the innovative mobile Ashray vans—air-conditioned vans stationed at high footfall areas across Delhi-NCR—so delivery associates can access rest and hydrate without needing to travel to a fixed location. The mobile units offer amenities such as: air-conditioned seating, clean drinking water, electrolytes, Wi-Fi, and mobile charging points. Hundreds of delivery associates have already used these vans within days of the initiative going live.
What makes Project Ashray distinctive is that the facilities are free of cost and open to all delivery associates, regardless of which company they work for. Amazon launched 100 Ashray centres in 2025, recording over one million visits from delivery associates across the industry.
Salim R Memon, Director Operations, Amazon India, says, "The health, safety, and well-being of associates across our operations network are a topmost priority for us. Ashray was built on a simple idea—that every delivery associate, whether they deliver for Amazon or not, deserves a clean, cool place to rest during their workday. Scaling to 250 centres and taking these facilities directly to delivery associates through our mobile units is a reflection of that commitment. This is also part of our broader investment of over ₹2,800 crore to strengthen associate safety, health, and well-being across our operations network."

What is Project Ashray?

Project Ashray was launched in 2024 with its first centre in Gurugram, followed by centres in Bengaluru and Mumbai. Ashray centres serve as dedicated rest stops for delivery associates, providing essential amenities such as air-conditioned seating areas, clean drinking water, mobile charging points, washrooms, and first-aid kits.
Each Ashray centre can accommodate up to 15 people at a time and allows free access for up to 30 minutes per visit along with convenient parking spaces. The centres operate year-round from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in high-footfall areas such as petrol pumps and commercial rental spaces. Ashray centre locations are added to Google Maps for easy access.

Voices from the ground

The real impact of Project Ashray is evident through testimonials from delivery associates who use these facilities daily. "When we are out for delivery, it is hot, we get tired, and the mobile charge runs out. Either we have to go back home or find a place to charge phones, it gets difficult. With the centre, using washroom, having water, taking breaks and charging phones has become easier," shares Adarsh, a delivery partner from Mumbai.
Fayaz, another delivery partner from Mumbai, explains, "We have got a place to take food breaks. We have washroom facilities here as well. We used to face a lot of problems during rains which will reduce now. I want to thank Amazon for this. I hope Amazon will keep providing such facilities in the future too. Delivery associates are getting a lot of help from this place."

Amazon's partnership with HPCL

In partnership with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), Amazon launched 40 Ashray centres in August 2025, with Shri Yogender Chandolia, Member of Parliament from Delhi's North-West Constituency, inaugurating the facility in Delhi's Rohini area. By 2025, the network had scaled to 100 centres across 16 cities in India.
Amazon's collaboration with HPCL has been instrumental in rapidly expanding the Ashray network. Together, they are creating essential spaces for delivery associates navigating busy traffic and challenging weather conditions. Amazon is working with its ongoing partners, including HPCL, Udyasa Foundation, and Rural Education and Development (READ) India to set up the new centres. Beyond Ashray, Amazon has established facilities within its fulfilment centres, sort centres, and delivery stations, including rest areas, break zones, and cafeterias, to support associate well-being during their shifts.

These efforts form part of its recently announced investment of over ₹2,800 crore, aimed at further strengthening associate safety, health, and financial well-being measures, while continuing to enhance its operations network across the country.
