When we launched Amazon.in in 2013, we set out to build one of India's safest, fastest, and most reliable operations networks—one that could serve customers across every serviceable pin code in the country. We have been investing at scale towards this vision and today, I'm proud to share that Amazon is planning to invest over ₹2,800 crore (~USD 300 million) to further strengthen associate safety, health, and financial well-being as we continue to scale our operations infrastructure across India.
This investment builds on Amazon India's ₹2,000 crore (~USD 233 million) commitment in 2025, which added 17 new fulfilment centres, six sortation centres, and 75 last-mile delivery stations. We have also been scaling Amazon Now, our quick commerce offering, at a pace of nearly two sites per day, reaching over 300 micro-fulfilment centres designed for ultra-fast deliveries across Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, and Mumbai.
As we look ahead, we will continue to invest in expanding and upgrading our operations network—including fulfillment centres, sortation centres, and delivery stations—to increase capacity and improve delivery speeds for customers in tier 2 and 3 cities across India. Our investments will also support sellers and small businesses and contribute to local economic growth.
On Amazon Now, we plan to more than double our footprint in cities we currently operate in and expand to more cities across India this year. I feel proud that Amazon's industry-leading facilities are climate-controlled and built with advanced engineering systems to improve energy efficiency, enhance workplace safety, and support a more inclusive environment.
Building a network that puts people first
The foundation of our network is our people. Every package that reaches a customer represents the work of tens of thousands of associates across our fulfilment centres, sortation centres, and delivery stations. Their safety and well-being isn't just a priority—it is core to everything we do.
Today, thousands of delivery associates are on the road every day, delivering packages to customers across the country. That's why we are expanding Project Ashray, our network of air-conditioned rest stops where delivery associates can take a quick break and refresh during their workday. These facilities currently serve over 150,000 delivery associates, including those outside Amazon’s network, every month across 100 locations. Each centre provides comfortable seating, clean washrooms, drinking water, mobile phone charging stations, and first-aid support.
We are also strengthening medical and accident insurance coverage for delivery associates working with Delivery Service Partners through upgraded Group Mediclaim and Group Personal Accident policies. Through the Samriddhi programme, we are enabling tens of thousands of associates and more than 200,000 community members to access government benefits—including e-Shram cards, health insurance, pension programmes, and educational assistance.
The Pratidhi scholarship programme provides financial support to children of associates from Class 3 to Class 12, including children with disabilities. In 2025, Amazon awarded 5,000 scholarships and connected over 200 students with Amazon leaders for mentorship. We are expanding this programme because when we invest in our associates' families, we invest in our collective future.
We are also expanding Sushruta, a health and wellness programme for truck drivers and their families, alongside a new wellness programme focused on mental health and ergonomic care. Amazon will offer free health check-ups through nationwide medical camps, providing preventive health screenings including eye, dental, BMI, and physician consultations.
Smarter tools for safer, more efficient operations
We are deploying AI and machine learning tools to improve on-road safety, including alerts for unsafe speeds and prompts for rest breaks. AI models assess route complexity to enable more equitable workload distribution and improve route planning. We have enhanced our Driver app with better navigation for unstructured addresses, improved earnings transparency, and simplified workflows, making our associates' work safer and more manageable.
Investing in the long term, for everyone
As we look ahead, we will continue to raise the bar on associate safety, health, and well-being—because that's what building for the long term looks like. The investments we are making today, in infrastructure, in programmes, and in people, reflect our belief that a strong operations network and a supported workforce go hand in hand. And we're just getting started. It’s still Day 1!
