At Amazon India, ensuring a safe, supportive, and comfortable work environment for our employees, associates, and partners is a year-round priority. As the festive season approaches, when our operations scale up to serve millions of customers across the country, we are doubling down on our commitment to wellbeing and safety.
Earlier this year, we announced an investment of over ₹2,000 crore ($233 million) to expand infrastructure, enhance associate-focused programmes, and develop advanced fulfilment technologies across our pan-India network. We also created over 150,000 seasonal opportunities across fulfilment centres, sort centres, and last-mile delivery stations—including roles for thousands of women and more than 2,000 persons with disabilities (PwDs)—to strengthen festive operations.
Here are 10 ways we’re prioritising associate safety this festive season:
1. Ashray rest centres for delivery associates
Amazon India’s Project Ashray is an industry-first initiative creating dedicated rest stops for delivery associates and logistics partners across high-footfall areas. Recently, we launched 40 new centres with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), moving closer to our goal of 100 centres nationwide by 2025.
Importantly, Ashray centres are open to all delivery partners, regardless of the company they work for, and offer air-conditioned seating, drinking water, electrolytes, charging points, washrooms, first-aid, refreshments, and parking. Operating daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., these centres ensure that delivery associates have the opportunity to rest and rejuvenate during the festive rush while continuing to deliver smiles to customers.
2. Onsite medical facilities
Large fulfilment and sortation centres are equipped with medical units staffed by trained professionals, ensuring immediate support when needed. Associates receive training to identify symptoms of heat stress and guidance from medical experts on preventive care. Women associates are supported with menstrual leave provisions, sanitary pad dispensing machines, and the ability to extend rest periods at facilities if required.
3. Health check-ups and medical camps
In 2025, we organised free medical camps for over 80,000 delivery associates and partners across major cities including Chennai, Delhi NCR, Jaipur, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. These camps provide health screenings and preventive care guidance, reinforcing our focus on holistic wellbeing. Through these camps, we are ensuring the health and wellbeing of delivery associates remain a top priority during the festive season.
4. Heat Index monitoring inside all our buildings
Our buildings are temperature-controlled and we have installed advanced heat index monitoring systems that measure both heat and humidity, a key factor that defines workplace comfort. We regularly monitor the heat index and take actions as needed including additional cool-down breaks or temporarily stopping work.
5. Hydration protocols across facilities
Cold and hot water dispensers, along with electrolyte supplements, are available across the network. Comprehensive heat-management protocols—such as scheduled job rotations, hydration breaks, and wellness guidelines—are integrated into daily operations. Associates are empowered to take informal breaks to stay hydrated and safe.
6. Air-conditioned breakrooms and resting points
Facilities are equipped with air-conditioned breakrooms, cooling systems, and shower facilities to allow associates to recharge. For line-haul and truck drivers, resting points with refreshments, water, and cooling options provide relief between long journeys. Our buildings also include cooling measures like ACs, ventilation, fans, and spot coolers, ensuring a comfortable environment across the network.
7. Emergency ambulance support
Through our partnership with Dial 4242, delivery associates have access to no-cost ambulance services via their app or hotline. The service connects to the nearest available life-support ambulance, ensuring timely response in emergencies. The ambulance services aim to improve the safety and well-being of delivery associates while they are on the road.
8. Route optimisation and integrated breaks
Our technology factors in weather conditions and safety breaks while planning delivery routes, reducing exposure to extreme heat or adverse weather. During festive peaks, additional workforce is deployed for early shifts to avoid high-temperature hours. Defensive driving training and Driver Vehicle Inspection Checks (DVICs) are conducted during the monsoon season to ensure vehicles are road-ready and associates are equipped for safe driving

Other benefits available for associates
9. Supporting work-life harmony
We support work-life harmony through a 5-day working policy with two weekly off-days, allowing associates time to rest and recharge. In addition, they are entitled to annual, sick, and casual leave as per state rules, ensuring flexibility to manage unplanned situations such as illness or family emergencies.
10. Financial wellbeing and security
Amazon India supports associates with the Early Access to Pay (EATP) programme, allowing withdrawal of up to 80% of accrued salary for urgent needs. Financial awareness is strengthened through online learning and “Samriddhi” camps. Associates also receive statutory benefits such as PF, ESIC, and gratuity, along with additional coverage through Group Mediclaim, Personal Accident, and Term Insurance, ensuring comprehensive protection and peace of mind.
These measures reflect our ongoing effort to balance operational excellence with associate wellbeing, ensuring that the festive peak remains a positive and safe experience for everyone in our network.
