Bhuvaneshwari grew up watching her father and uncle operate commercial vehicles. That early exposure planted something, a quiet interest in discipline and independence that driving offered. Years later, it became the foundation of her livelihood.
The 34-year-old from Chennai has worn many hats over the course of her career: stage singer, ambulance driver, driving instructor. Each role added to her confidence and technical skills behind the wheel. But it was commercial trucking that gave her the stability she was looking for.
Finding her footing in commercial driving
Bhuvaneshwari began with an 8-foot truck and worked her way up to larger vehicles through experience and performance. However, income disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic brought financial uncertainty, prompting her to look for more stable, long-term opportunities.
In 2022, she learned about an opportunity through a former driving student, Bhuvaneshwari chose to take the plunge and joined Amazon India’s operations network in Chennai. She joined as a commercial truck driver and has since progressed into operating 20-foot commercial trucks across intracity routes, moving customer orders between Amazon’s fulfilment centres and delivery stations across a city, a critical part of the company’s middle mile network.
Through opportunities available with Amazon’s trucking partners, this role has enabled her to access steady work and stable income after years of income uncertainty.
Stability that extends beyond the job
As a single mother raising a young son and supporting her mother, Bhuvaneshwari balances demanding driving schedules. Reliable earnings from trucking have allowed her to take greater financial responsibility at home, from managing everyday expenses to planning ahead for her child’s education and future.
“Driving has interested me since childhood, but choosing it as a full-time profession changed my life. As a single mother, having stable work gives me confidence and peace of mind. Working with Amazon has given me consistent opportunities and the freedom to provide for my family independently,” Bhuvaneshwari says.
Women remain significantly underrepresented in commercial trucking and logistics in India. Bhuvaneshwari's career — built through skill, persistence, and access to sustained opportunity — points to what becomes possible when that access exists.
“I enjoy being on the road and want to continue growing in this profession while encouraging more women to consider driving as a career,” she says.
Bhuvaneshwari’s story is less about exception and more about what a stable livelihood can enable: financial independence, professional growth, and the confidence to keep going.
