Vangala Naga Kiran is a transport analyst for Amazon’s Hyderabad operations. Born in the rural district of Adilabad in Khammam (Telangana), Kiran was just 9 years old when he was diagnosed with epilepsy, which affected the functioning of his right hand.

From battling depression to starting a successful career

After consulting a doctor and medical experts, Vangala was prescribed preventive medicines, but those medications led to an adverse reaction which resulted in severe swelling of his gums, teeth discolouration, dizziness and abnormal weight gain. After undergoing a gruelling process of trying various combinations of medicines to mitigate these side-effects, finally Kiran was able to take a dosage that had no adverse reactions. Almost 20 years later, he continues to take the same medicines. However, this phase of life was a dark one, with Kiran battling clinical depression, while being at home most times and in and out of jobs. It was a vicious cycle that didn't seem to end. But end it did - when he landed a job at Amazon. This was that key moment that turned Kiran's life and how! At Amazon, we believe that each of our employees is unique, and brings something incredible to the table and Vangala is a shining example of this.

Realising his full potential at Amazon

As a transport analyst at Amazon, Vangala's days are busy and he feels his "potential is being utilized to the fullest" and that he is able to "make a valuable contribution to the team." This is a far cry from the days when Kiran felt inadequate and unable to hold on to any jobs and hence went into depression. Kiran says, "My experience so far in Amazon has been amazing and my managers have been extremely considerate with requests for shift changes." Vangala loves watching movies on Prime Video during his free time, and reading books on Kindle is his favourite Amazon pastime.
