At Amazon India, ensuring a safe, supportive, and comfortable work environment for our employees, associates, and partners is a year-round priority. As the summer heatwave intensifies and our operations continue to serve millions of customers across the country, we are doubling down on our commitment to well-being and safety.
Last month, we announced an investment of over ₹2,800 crore to expand infrastructure, to further strengthen associate safety, health, and financial wellbeing measures while strengthening one of India’s safest, fastest and most reliable operations network.
Here are 10 ways we're prioritising associate safety this summer:

1. Ashray rest centres for delivery associates

Amazon India's Project Ashray is an industry-first initiative creating dedicated rest stops for delivery associates across Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai among others. In 2025, we launched 100 Ashray centers across the country. Beyond the current 100 locations, Amazon will continue to expand Project Ashray in 2026.
Ashray centres are open to all delivery associates, regardless of the company they work for, and offer air-conditioned seating, drinking water, electrolytes, charging points, clean washrooms, first-aid, refreshments and parking.
Amazon’s Ashray centres serve more than 150,000 delivery associates every month, including those outside Amazon’s network. Operating daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., these centres ensure delivery associates can rest and rejuvenate during the summer heat.

2. Onsite medical facilities and welfare initiatives

Large fulfillment and sortation centres are equipped with medical units staffed by trained professionals, ensuring immediate support when needed. Associates receive training to identify symptoms of heat stress and guidance from medical experts on preventive care. Women associates are supported with menstrual leave provisions and sanitary pad dispensing machines.
Amazon recently introduced lactation pods at its Bengaluru facilities, offering private, mobile spaces for nursing mothers. These pods can be deployed across sites based on demand, with plans to expand to additional locations across the operations network.

3. Heat Index monitoring inside all our buildings

Our buildings are temperature-controlled and we have installed advanced heat index monitoring systems that measure both heat and humidity, a key factor that defines workplace comfort. We actively monitor weather conditions and take necessary actions, including adjusting workflows, providing additional breaks, or temporarily pausing operations when needed.

4. Hydration protocols across facilities

Cold and hot water dispensers, along with electrolyte supplements, are available across Amazon’s operations facilities. Comprehensive heat-management protocols—such as scheduled job rotations, hydration breaks, and wellness guidelines—are integrated into daily operations. Associates are empowered to take informal breaks to stay hydrated and safe.

5. Air-conditioned breakrooms and resting points

Facilities are equipped with air-conditioned breakrooms, cooling systems, and shower facilities to allow associates to recharge. For line-haul and truck drivers, resting points with refreshments, water, and cooling options provide relief between long journeys. Our buildings also include cooling measures like ACs, ventilation, fans, and spot coolers.

6. Health check-ups, medical camps, and accessibility

In 2025, we organised free medical camps for over 80,000 delivery associates and partners across major cities including Chennai, Delhi NCR, Jaipur, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. These camps provide health screenings, preventive care guidance, hydration guidance and early detection support reinforcing our focus on holistic wellbeing. Programmes such as Sushruta, a wide-ranging health and wellness programme for long-haul truck drivers and their family members, will continue to expand alongside a new wellness programme focused on mental health and ergonomic care.
Amazon is also distributing assistive devices to eligible associates with disabilities, supporting them in performing their roles more effectively and independently.

7. Route optimisation and integrated breaks

For delivery associates, our approach focuses on continued on-ground support across our sites and on the road. This includes delivery app-initiated break reminders, reduction in number of packages where required, sensitisation on heat mitigation, emergency helpline access, and no-cost ambulance support. Defensive driving training and Driver Vehicle Inspection Checks (DVICs) are conducted during the monsoon season to ensure vehicles are road-ready and associates are equipped for safe driving.

8. Emergency ambulance support

Through our partnership with Dial 4242, delivery associates have access to no-cost ambulance services via their app or hotline. The service connects to the nearest available life-support ambulance, ensuring timely response in emergencies.

9. Supporting work-life harmony

We support work-life harmony through a five-day working policy with two weekly off-days, allowing associates time to rest and recharge. In addition, they are entitled to annual, sick, and casual leave as per state rules, ensuring flexibility to manage unplanned situations such as illness or family emergencies.

10. Financial wellbeing and security

Amazon India supports associates with the Early Access to Pay (EATP) programme, allowing withdrawal of up to 80% of accrued salary for urgent needs. Financial awareness is strengthened through online learning and Samriddhi camps. In 2026, through Samriddhi, Amazon will enable tens of thousands of associates and more than 200,000 community members to access government benefits such as e-Shram cards, health insurance, pension programmes, and educational assistance.
Associates also receive statutory benefits such as PF, ESIC, and gratuity, along with additional coverage through Group Mediclaim, Personal Accident, and Term Insurance.
These measures reflect Amazon’s ongoing effort to balance operational excellence with associate wellbeing, ensuring that the summer months remain a positive and safe experience for everyone in our network.
