With the festive season around the corner, Amazon India has announced that it has created more than 150,000 seasonal job opportunities across its operations network. These include direct and indirect work opportunities at Amazon’s fulfilment centres (FCs), sort centres, and last mile delivery network across India.
Notably, Amazon has created opportunities for thousands of women associates, as well as over 2,000 PWDs (persons with disabilities) in its network. Amazon has already onboarded majority of these new associates, in preparation for the festive season.
Amazon India has built a strong nation-wide fulfilment and delivery network that is helping more than 1.6 million sellers serve customers across the country. The company has fulfilment centres spread across 15 states, offering over 43 million cubic feet of storage; along with a network of close to 2,000 Amazon-operated and partner delivery stations. Additionally, it has 28,000 'I Have Space' partners and thousands of Amazon Flex partners, who deliver to customers across the country. The new hires will join Amazon's established workforce to help pick, pack, ship, and deliver customer orders safely and efficiently to meet the growing demand during the festive period.
Over the last few months, Amazon has announced an investment of $233 million(₹ 2000 crore) into its operations network in India, launch of five new FCs and 30 new delivery stations in tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
This festive season, we continue to be focused on providing fast and reliable deliveries to customers in every serviceable pin code across India. For this, we've strengthened our fulfilment and logistics network with over 1.5 lakh additional people to help us manage increased customer demand efficiently. Many of these people continue their journey with Amazon beyond the festive period, with a significant number returning to work with us year after year
Amazon has always been committed to support the well-being of its associates and has implemented a range of initiatives to ensure that. Earlier this year, Amazon expanded its Ashray rest centres and also rolled out an initiative providing free health check-ups to over 80,000 delivery associates across major cities. This initiative brings essential healthcare directly to last-mile delivery stations, offering comprehensive services that include eye, dental, BMI, and physician consultations.
“Throughout our operations, we prioritise the safety and wellbeing of all associates—whether they're working in our buildings or delivering packages to customers. We remain dedicated to fostering a safe, equitable, and empowering work environment that includes social security benefits and supports the financial wellbeing of all our team," adds Abhinav.
"I'm grateful to join Amazon this festive season. The company's focus on safety measures gives me confidence while working in the operations network. It's fulfilling to help deliver happiness to families in India during celebrations while being part of a respectful workplace," says Manisha Kumari, an associate, who has recently joined Amazon and is working at one its FCs in Bengaluru.
Benefits available for associates at Amazon
1. Industry leading infrastructure and amenities – Designed to ensure a safe and comfortable working environment for employees and associates, all Amazon facilities provide access to safe drinking water, clean washrooms and even air-conditioned cafeterias at larger facilities which have adequate seating space and amenities such as tea/coffee/snack vending machines, microwaves etc.
2. Onsite Medical Facilities – The on-site first aid (“AMCARE”) facilities at the fulfilment centres are available to anyone needing immediate first-aid attention or rest. Any employee or associate who isn’t feeling well has access to a bed or a resting space, oral hydration, heating pads, as well as assistance from a qualified nurse available at the building. If an employee or associate isn’t feeling better after visiting the AMCARE facility, they’re referred to a nearby hospital.
3. Safety during weather-related disruptions – We leverage an Amazon-developed forecasting tool to provide alerts when increasing levels of heat or severe weather events are expected. Once a severe weather alert is flagged, activities and a timeline to act are prepared. For instance, if increasing heat or humidity inside buildings is found, teams act to provide comfortable working conditions, including temporarily suspending work if needed.
4. Financial flexibility and wellbeing – The Early Access to Pay (EATP) program allows associates to withdraw up to 80% of their accrued basic salary between the 1st to 20th of each month, promoting financial flexibility and wellness. Associate feedback has been overwhelmingly positive where they have expressed gratitude for the timely support during family medical emergencies. Amazon is also working on initiatives to address knowledge gaps that may exist around basic financial well-being topics and government support programs. The financial well-being programs are rolled out through a mix of online education programs for awareness building and physical financial well-being camps called "Samriddhi camps".
