Over the past decade, Amazon has built one of India’s most extensive operations networks—one that today reaches 100% of the country’s serviceable pin codes. With more than 43 million cubic feet of storage space and close to 2,000 delivery stations, this network plays a critical role in enabling India’s digital economy. In 2024 alone, it delivered over 410 million items on the same day or next day, reflecting the scale, speed, and reliability customers across the country increasingly expect.
In 2025, we announced an additional investment of ₹2,000 crore to further expand our operations infrastructure and elevate the experience of employees and associates across the network. Because infrastructure alone doesn’t deliver packages. Every delivery depends on people—the associates who pick, sort, and move orders through our network, and the delivery partners who navigate India’s cities and towns every day. That human foundation is what anchors our operations and shapes how we continue to build for the future.
Safety first, always
At Amazon, we focus on creating environments where people can do their best work—safely, comfortably, and with confidence. We combine competitive pay with best-in-class infrastructure and thoughtfully designed working conditions for everyone, whether they work inside our buildings or deliver to customers’ doorsteps. Alongside infrastructure, we provide benefits that support financial security and work-life balance. Associates in our facilities receive Provident Fund and Employees’ State Insurance (ESIC) benefits, along with medical, personal accident, and term insurance that go beyond statutory requirements. A five-day workweek with two weekly off-days, supported by annual, sick, and casual leave in line with state norms, helps associates manage both professional and personal needs.
Inclusive policies are central to how we support long-term wellbeing. Our menstrual leave provisions, onsite medical and rest facilities, and sanitary pad dispensing machines across fulfillment centers support women’s health with dignity and care. For working mothers, access to daycare facilities and lactation pods across sites enables continuity at work with confidence and balance. We also invest in growth by offering upskilling opportunities that allow associates to apply for internal roles based on their interests, regardless of their current job assignment.
Our commitment to safety extends beyond our fulfillment centers and into the last mile. Delivery associates are supported by a 24/7 safety infrastructure, including dedicated shipping and delivery helplines, emergency support for safety concerns, and free ambulance services through partners operating in over 730 cities. Before every trip, drivers complete multi-point vehicle inspections to ensure roadworthiness. Weather preparedness is built into daily operations as well—real-time alerts from forecasting tools trigger immediate response plans, whether that means defensive driving training during monsoons or additional break time during periods of extreme heat.
We also continue to invest in initiatives like Project Ashray, which provides delivery associates with dedicated rest stops along their routes. These air-conditioned facilities offer cooling, hydration, and sanitation—essential support in India’s varied climate. With 100 centers already set up across the country, Project Ashray is available free of cost to all delivery associates, not just those delivering for Amazon.
Growing with purpose
In 2013, Amazon.in began with 100 sellers and a single fulfillment center serving a few cities. Reaching every corner of a country as vast and diverse as India felt ambitious, but our vision was clear from the start: to make the widest selection available to every Indian, as quickly and reliably as possible. To do that, we built our operations network in partnership with India—working alongside institutions like Indian Railways and India Post and integrating local kirana stores into our last-mile ecosystem. Together, this collaborative model has helped us serve customers from Kashmir to Kanyakumari while creating livelihoods across the country.
Today, we are faster than we’ve ever been—and we know we will continue to raise that bar. But speed alone doesn’t define progress. What truly defines our operations network is how people, technology, and partnerships come together every day to serve customers safely and reliably. What began as an ambitious idea has evolved into one of India’s most advanced fulfillment networks—guided by a clear sense of purpose and an unwavering focus on being the safest, fastest, and most dependable operations network in the country.
