Parag Gupta, Director and Country Manager for Amazon Devices India, said, “Today viewers are more in control of what and where they watch their preferred content. With Fire TV devices customers can stream rich content across multiple OTT platforms, and use Alexa-voice search for quick and convenient discovery of movies and TV shows.”

Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashmah

Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashmah continued to tickle the funny bone of Indian viewers, retaining its spot as the most searched show via Alexa for the second time in a row. Popular teleseries Anupamaa and Indian Idol were the other highly searched shows.

Pushpa: The Rise topped the chart as the most searched movie on Fire TV via Alexa search, followed by Hindi films Brahmāstra and The Kashmir Files. Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Alia Bhatt were the most searched actors.

Although Indians consumed internet-based content in 12 different languages, Hindi, followed by Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Bengali emerged as the popular regional languages. Motu Patlu, Peppa Pig, and Doraemon were the most searched content among kids.

The trends report also showed that online content explosion translated into a 44% increase in viewership on free content platforms. Amazon MiniTV, YouTube, and MX Player were the most streamed free content platforms.

The T20 effect

Video streaming peaked during October fuelled by the T20 World Cup and new content releases during Diwali. The India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup match on October 23 last year recorded the highest viewership for a single day. Also, the FIFA World Cup led to a 10X increase in JioCinema streaming on Fire TV. “We are constantly listening to the evolving viewing needs of our customers, and innovating to deliver the best binge-watching experience on connected TVs with Fire TV features, such as personalization, ease of navigation and faster app load time,” Gupta added.

Fire TV converts your normal TV to a smart TV, supporting more than 12,000 apps, besides all major OTT apps such as Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, YouTube, ZEE5, Voot, Sony Liv, and much more.
